Jamek Mosque, officially Sultan Abdul Samad Jamek Mosque opened it's door more than 100 years ago and it is recognized as the oldest Islamic place of worship in Kuala Lumpur. It is located at the confluence of the Klang and Gombak river, which is also the birthplace of Kuala Lumpur. The mosque was built in 1909, and the design was inspired by the Mogul influences of nothern India. Today there is a new national mosque not too far away, but Jamek Mosque remains important due to its strategic location in the heart of Kuala Lumpur.
